- M.S. Graduate Assistantship in Soil Science
Description
The University of Wyoming, through the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management in the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences and Natural Resources, is seeking a motivated student for an M.S. position in Soil Science beginning Fall 2026.
This graduate assistantship will focus on nutrient management in row crop production systems in semi-arid regions. The student will work on one or more field-based research projects designed to improve soil fertility, nutrient use efficiency, and sustainable crop production under water-limited conditions.
Research Responsibilities: The student will-
Design and conduct field experiments related to soil fertility and nutrient management
Collect and analyze soil, and plant samples
Monitor research plots and assist with trial implementation
Analyze data and prepare research reports
Present findings at scientific conferences and stakeholder meetings
Publish peer-reviewed journal articles and extension publications
Assist with field days, producer outreach, and extension events
This position offers strong training in applied soil fertility, field research methods, and stakeholder-engaged agricultural research in semi-arid production systems.
Funding
This is a fully funded M.S. assistantship that provides a competitive annual stipend, full tuition coverage, and graduate student health insurance.

Requirements
Required Qualifications: Applicant must have-
A B.S. degree in soil science, agronomy, crop science, plant science, or a closely related discipline
Must be eligible for admission to the University of Wyoming Graduate School
Background or experience in nutrient management, agronomy, or crop production
Strong interest in soil science and field-based agricultural research
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
Effective written and oral communication skills
A valid U.S. driver’s license (or ability to obtain one within one month of hire)
