The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT), is now accepting applications for Engineering and Construction Intern (State Intern) positions throughout the State! Our interns work in many different capacities agency-wide. Positions are available throughout the Bureau of Engineering and Construction.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Internships available starting in September 2026, ending by May 31, 2027.
Work around your class schedule on a part-time basis with remote work available!
Positions are available in our District Construction offices, Central Construction office, Materials Evaluation and Specifications, Quality Assurance, Project Administration, Traffic Project Design, Traffic Safety, Traffic Signals, Highway Design, Bridge Design, Facilities and Transit, and more!
Locations: New Haven, Newington, Norwich, Rocky Hill and Thomaston
DISCOVER THE OPPORTUNITY TO
Problem solve, recommend, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
Contribute to providing safe and efficient transportation improvements for the traveling public.
Utilize computer aided design software (MicroStation) and other applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Read and analyze or prepare construction plans and estimates.
The ideal candidate will have experience with:
Utilizing engineering-related computer software.
Multitasking and working as part of a team.
Providing verbal and written communication to diverse population, including presentation skills.
Using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Access.
*SALARY
Applicants who have completed a previous internship in the same field may be granted additional compensation of $.50/hr.
APPLICATION DETAILS
Applicants may be required to be available to travel to and attend trainings, conferences, public meetings, field reviews, emergency responses, etc., both within and outside of normal working hours, when necessary. A valid driver’s license is required and must be maintained.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current matriculation in an accredited Associate's, Bachelor's or advanced degree program determined by the Commissioner of the Department of Administrative Services or his/her designee to be appropriate preparation for employment in the designated agency and/or functional area.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous internship or work experience in transportation engineering or transportation construction engineering.
Currently matriculated in a civil engineering degree program for design or construction-related positions.
Currently matriculated in an engineering degree program in a position-relevant area for specialty positions (i.e., Electrical Engineering degree for position in Electrical Engineering).
Currently matriculated in a construction management degree program for construction-related positions.
Possession and maintenance of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
