Description
About Compliance Council
Compliance Council is an Australian GRC consultancy specialising in information security, HSEQ and business operations. Our positioning is Strategy. Execution. Assurance. We design, implement and assure governance, risk and compliance frameworks that protect Australian organisations and drive business performance.
Our credentials: more than 700 GRC engagements delivered and more than 300 clients served across Australia. We are ourselves certified to ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 27001.
Our Systems Engineering Assurance practice helps clients in defence, transport, rail and infrastructure establish the systems engineering practices, management systems and technical governance they need to deliver complex projects to a high standard. Since 2015 we have supported more than 30 organisations to achieve Technically Assured Organisation (TAO) authorisation under the Transport for NSW (TfNSW) scheme.
The Opportunity
We are growing our Systems Engineering Assurance practice and looking for a GRC Consultant to lead client engagements and help shape our broader systems assurance offering. You will report directly to a Director and work within a small expert team in a boutique environment where your contribution is visible and your career path is genuinely yours to design.
Initially the role focuses on TAO gap analysis, remediation and authorisation support. Over time, you will play a meaningful part in scaling our adjacent service lines: systems engineering management planning, requirements management, system safety assurance, and engineering competence management.
What You Will Do
- Lead TAO gap analyses against the TfNSW Engineering Management Framework (ENM, CPM, CFM) and produce clear, evidence-based findings and remediation plans.
- Design and document systems engineering processes aligned with ISO/IEC 15288 and ISO/IEC/IEEE 24748-4, including Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMPs), requirements management frameworks, and verification and validation regimes.
- Support clients through the TAO application and assessment process, including evidence preparation, register development and assessor engagement.
- Advise on management system maturity (quality under ISO 9001, safety, environmental) tailored to engineering organisations in transport, rail, defence and infrastructure.
- Contribute to the development of CC’s adjacent service offerings in system safety assurance, requirements management, hazard and risk management, and engineering competence.
- Publish thought leadership and represent CC at industry events to grow the profile of the practice.
Why Compliance Council
- Work in the leading independent practice in Australia for TfNSW TAO authorisation — a recognised niche with a strong pipeline of work.
- Boutique team with direct access to senior leadership. Your work is visible and your ideas shape what we build next.
- Variety of clients and projects across defence, transport, rail and infrastructure, rather than being stuck on a single program for years.
- Opportunity to publish insights, develop frameworks and grow a personal profile as a recognised practitioner in systems engineering assurance.
- Hybrid working from our Sydney office. Minimal travel, with most client work delivered remotely or in Sydney metro.
- Funded professional development, including INCOSE certification and Engineers Australia chartered status pathways.
Requirements
Essential
- 7 to 12 years’ experience in systems engineering, engineering assurance or related advisory roles, ideally with exposure to rail, transport, defence or major infrastructure.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of ISO/IEC 15288 and the INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook, with practical experience applying systems engineering processes on real projects.
- Experience preparing or assessing engineering management documentation such as SEMPs, requirements registers, verification matrices, hazard logs and competence frameworks.
- Strong written and verbal communication. Comfortable writing assurance findings, briefing senior stakeholders, and translating complex technical concepts for varied audiences.
- A consultative mindset. You build trust with engineering leaders, scope work realistically, and deliver outcomes clients value.
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Unrestricted rights to work in Australia.
Desirable
- Direct experience with the TfNSW TAO scheme as a TAO consultant, applicant lead or assessor.
- INCOSE certification (CSEP or ESEP).
- Chartered status with Engineers Australia (CPEng) or registration on the National Engineering Register (NER).
- Familiarity with system safety assurance under EN 50126, IEC 61508 or equivalent transport and defence safety frameworks.
- Lead auditor qualification (ISO 9001, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 45001) or equivalent management systems consulting background.
