Illinois College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in mechanical engineering to begin in fall 2027. This full-time faculty position requires a PhD or ABD in an engineering discipline. While we welcome candidates of a wide variety of expertise, preference will be given to those with skills or interest in teaching project-based undergraduate courses such as introductory engineering and capstone design, as well as lab-based courses such as materials science or fluid dynamics.

Illinois College Engineering is a young program that has recently received ABET accreditation in mechanical engineering. The major is embedded within a liberal-arts college, and so understanding and appreciation of the environment of a liberal arts college is essential. Additional duties include contribution to the ongoing development of the engineering programs at the College, student advising and mentoring, and scholarly engagement. The successful candidate will be granted startup funds to help setup, including student-faculty research. This position resides within an interdisciplinary department including Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science and hence presents an exciting opportunity for innovation and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Moreover, there are plentiful opportunities for meaningful engagement with our various local engineering partners.
