Company History
1926
Clearwater Paper gets its start.
The Clearwater Timber Company, established in 1900, constructed the Clearwater Mill in Lewiston, Idaho, which soon after commencement of operations became the world’s largest white pine mill.
1950
From lumber to paper.
Potlatch Forests, Inc. opened its first pulp and paperboard mill in Lewiston, Idaho. The new mill converted sawmill waste into paper products.
1963
Our first tissue paper.
Clearwater Tissue Mills, Inc. was established as a 50-50 joint venture between Potlatch Forests and Swanee Paper Company of Pennsylvania to produce private brand tissue products from its pulp and paper mill located in Lewiston, Idaho.
2008
Clearwater Paper spin-off.
Clearwater Paper Corporation was established during Potlatch Corporation’s division of its manufacturing assets from its large land holdings. Clearwater Paper, a new and independent company with its headquarters in Spokane, Washington, started its business with four pulp and paper facilities located in Las Vegas, Nevada, Chicago, Illinois, Cypress Bend, Arkansas and Lewiston, Idaho.
Gordon L. Jones was appointed as the President and Chief Executive Offer of Clearwater Paper
2017
Expanding production.
Clearwater Paper broke ground on a new tissue machine and converting operation located adjacent to the company’s existing facility in Shelby, North Carolina. The new facility produces premium and ultra-premium grades of private brand tissue products.
2020
New leadership.
Arsen S. Kitch was appointed as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Clearwater Paper, after serving as the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the consumer products business, and previously in senior finance leadership roles since joining the company in 2013.
Notable Accomplishments / Recognition
5/8/23 Clearwater Paper Corporation (NYSE: CLW) announced today that the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) has validated the company’s climate targets.
