- Technology Transfer Manager
Description
Utah State University’s Technology Transfer team is seeking a qualified Technology Transfer Manager with expertise in the life sciences and biotechnology. This role involves fostering communication and collaborating closely with academic and industry partners (faculty, staff, students, industry representatives, and other stakeholders) to facilitate the transfer of new technologies to the commercial sector. Reporting to the Executive Director of Research Innovation & Impact, the Manager will be part of an integrated team responsible for developing and implementing strategic and tactical plans for managing USU intellectual property.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah. The successful candidate will be expected to work on campus a minimum of 3 days per week.
Requirements
Position Duties
- Develop and cultivate opportunities and relationships with faculty and industry that enable effective transfer of USU intellectual property (IP).
- Lead innovator engagement efforts to proactively identify new intellectual property (patentable and non-patentable) that should be disclosed.
- Contribute to long-range strategic planning, success, and expansion of Technology Transfer support.
- Perform and/or supervise the development of IP and market assessments for faculty-generated technologies to identify IP potential, market opportunities, competitive technologies and companies, and paths forward for taking a promising technology to market.
- Participate in and direct review committees relative to IP landscape and market opportunities and competition.
- Identify and develop relationships with internal and external sources for research, development, technology maturation, and funding.
- Negotiate contracts, licensing agreements, nondisclosure, material transfer, intellectual property, and inter-institutional agreements.
- Represent Technology Transfer professionally and regularly with campus constituencies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 1 year of experience.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, and a history of accomplishments in collaboration with diverse groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree(s) and/or experience in the life sciences or biotechnology.
- Familiarity with intellectual property protection processes, particularly as they relate to the life sciences and biotechnology.
- Experience translating and marketing complex scientific or technical information to various audiences, including investors, business leaders, and researchers.
- Proven experience in performing market assessments of emerging technologies for commercial applications.
- Experience in developing relationships, raising funds, and developing commercialization opportunities.
