About the College/Unit/Department

As the 4th largest public college of education in the country and the 3rd largest college at UGA , the Mary Frances Early College of Education ( MFE COE ) improves the lives of residents of Georgia and beyond through our instruction, research, and service. The MFE COE is a comprehensive college with disciplines focused on teacher preparation, counseling and human development, communication sciences, human movement sciences, career development, student affairs, and educational administration and policy. We place significant emphasis on graduate education with approximately 40% of our students at the graduate level, making us the second largest college at UGA with respect to graduate education.

We offer M.Ed. and Ed.S. degrees focused on K-12 education, an M.Ed. focused on instructional design and development, an M.Ed. focused on research, Ph.D. focused on using design, research, and scholarship to solve real-world educational problems in multiple contexts, and an online Ed.D. focused on integrating design-based research, making data-informed decisions, and using scholarship and research to improve instructional outcomes in the field.

A doctorate in Learning, Design, and Technology, Instructional Technology, or a closely related area by the start date of the position.

Position Summary

The Department of Workforce Education and Instructional Technology at the University of Georgia invites applications for a position as an Assistant Professor of Learning, Design, and Technology ( LDT ) to begin August 2026. The position is a tenure-track, academic year (9-month) appointment with the possibility of summer employment. The qualified candidate will join an active, innovative, and collaborative group of scholars focused on research, creation, and use of technologies to enrich people's lives in the workplaces and communities of the future. Faculty members in the LDT program have a passion for designing, conducting research, publishing in top journals, and seeking external funds to support their work.

We seek candidates who have a vision for the future of the field and the role of emerging technologies in the workplace of the future.

Responsibilities:

1. Establish and maintain a rigorous and innovative line of research.
2. Seek external funding to support and sustain your research agenda.
3. Design and teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in instructional technology in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats.
4. Provide leadership in local, national and/or international partnerships.
5. Provide service to the department, college, university and profession.
6. Advise graduate students and supervise graduate student research.

Additional Requirements

Required Qualifications:

1. Evidence of an active program of research related to learning, design, and technology.
2. A year or more of experience applying instructional design in K-12, higher education, and/or corporate settings.
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Desired Qualifications:

1. At least one year experience translating research insights into practical solutions that improve teaching and learning in real-world settings.
2. At least one year of practical work experience in K-12 educational settings and/or business or corporate learning environments.
3. At least one year experience teaching topics related to instructional design and technology in both face-to-face and online environments for a year or more at the graduate-level.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Desired Qualifications:

1. Demonstrated ability to conduct and teach design-based approaches to research (e.g., design-based research, educational-design research, action research) that bridge theory and practice in learning environments.
2. A research agenda that addresses pressing issues in education, workplaces, and society at the intersection of learning, design, and technology.
3. Knowledge of applying for and/or securing external funding for one or more projects.
4. Leadership in current efforts and future directions of research and practice in the field.
5. Potential to promote collaborative relationships in various contexts (i.e., K-12 education settings and/or business or corporate learning environments).
